Make Me
a Servant A servant is a person who
performs duties for others. It is a person who does the will of someone else.
It is an individual who must do things that are not always convenient, not
always pleasant, and sometimes the things they are asked to do, are at great
cost to them. A servant can also
either serve willingly, or under obligation.
We sing a song that states “Make Me a Servant.” Let us appreciate that
for which we are asking. God’s word can help us understand what it truly
means to be a servant of Christ. 1. We
Become a Servant when we have a Spiritual Mindset, like Christ a. Jesus came and gave His life to serve
His father (Mark 10:45) b. He is
looking for those willing to do the same
(Matt.20:25-28) c. Galatians
6:1-10 shows us a spiritual man and how he lives, walking by the spirit, not
the flesh. (Gal.5:16-26, Rom. 8:6;14, Matt.6:33, Heb.13:14) 2. We Become a Servant when we are willing
to be Humble and Selfless a. Recognize
what pride does (Prov. 16:18. 11:2) b.
Be willing to be humbled, lowly (Phil. 2:3, 1 Peter 5:5) c. Paul and Christ give us examples by
which we can live (1 Cor.9:11-12, John 13:3-16) Jesus leads the way (Phil.
2:5-8) 3. We Become Servants when we
want to glorify God by how We Live a.
Paul gave his life over to Christ (1 Cor.2:1-5, Gal. 6:14) b. Jesus teaches us to glorify the Father
(Matt.5:14-16, John 15:5-8) c. Others
will notice our fruits and glorify the Father. (1 Pet.2:12, Phil.1:9-11) Again and again we may sing “make me like
you”. It takes an eager heart and a willing spirit to truly give ourselves to
be a servant of the living God. In the true sense of the word servant, let us
be devoted to God and live happily under His care, serving Him with all our
heart, soul, mind and strength. |
