But
tonight we are going to please God and you all have please God by being here
on this evening so if you have your personal copy of God’s words please turn
with me to the book of John, the Gospel of John, the chapter is 4 and we’re
going to begin looking at verses 16 and we’re going to read down to verse 26.
John 4:16-26 there you will find these words, Jesus said to her, “Go, call
your husband, and come here.” The woman answered and said, “I have no
husband.” Jesus said to her, “You have well said, ‘I have no husband,’ for
you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your
husband; in that you spoke truly.” The woman said to Him, “Sir, I perceive
that You are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you
Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.” Jesus
said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on
this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. You worship what you do
not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour
is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in
spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is
Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” The
woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ).
“When He comes, He will tell us all things.” Jesus said to her, “I who speak
to you am He.”It is from this passage of Scripture that I would like to draw
upon the blackboards of your minds and preach from the subject of victorious
mindset towards worship. What is worship? Well, when we’re talking about
worship we’re talking about reverent homage, honor, praise and glory rendered
that is pleasing to the receiver, who is God. When we’re talking about
worship we’re talking about action motivated from the heart of reverence for
the divine, with the knowledge of who He is and what He has done and what we
trust Him to do for us. It’s in the reading of John chapter 4 verse 24 that
we recognize that true worship has three elements to it. You have to have the
right object, you have to have the right attitude, and you have to have the
right action. if you have the wrong object you’re not worshipping truly if
you have the wrong action, if you have the wrong attitude then we’re not
engaging in true worship. In order for is to have true worship we have to
have the right object, the right attitude and the right action. May I say on
this evening that God is the object of our worship. It is through worship
that we endeavor to become righteous. It is through worship that we are
classified as faithful it is through worship that we endeavor to be holy and
we endeavor to be godly as He is perfect in all of these things. So we know
we have to worship God but we also have the have the right attitude and the
right attitude means our worship must be sincere, along with respect and all
for our God as well as our fellowship with Him. But not only must we have the
right object and the right attitude but true worship also requires that we
have the right action. And the right |
