Influence A. To shape is give definite form,
organization, or character to; to fashion, adjust, or adapt. B.
We have studied, sung, and prayed about being “shaped” throughout
2014. C. In the simplest of terms, consider the
three basic sources of shaping influence. I.
_____________:_________-Shaped A. The mindset: “I am willing to be shaped by
the philosophies, practices, and priorities of this world”: 1.
The desires of the flesh
2. The desires of the eyes 3. The pride of life B. The problem: “All that is in the world is
not from the Father but is from the world” (1 John 2:16) 1. “If anyone loves
the world, the love of the Father is not in him” (1 John 2:15) 2. “The world
is passing away along with its desires” (1 John 2:17) II.

mindset: “What I want, when I want it, in the way that I want it.” 1. Lovers of self10. Unappeasable 2. Lovers of money11. Slanderous 3. Proud12. Without self-control 4. Arrogant13. Brutal 5. Abusive14. Not loving good 6. Disobedient to parents15. Treacherous
7. Ungrateful16. Reckless 8. Unholy17. Swollen with conceit 9. Heartless18. Lovers of pleasure B. The problem:“…rather than lovers of God”
(2 Tim 3:1-5; Jer 17:9; Rom 8:5-8).

The mindset: “Lord: guide me, direct me, lead me, mold me, use me,
guard me, help me stand.” 1. “You are
our Father, we are the clay, and you are our potter” (Isa 64:1-8) 2. “My
thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways…” (Isa 55:8-9)
3. “Shall the potter be regarded as the clay…?” (Isa 29:15-16) 4. “Like clay
in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand” (Jer 18:1-6) 5. “Whom he
foreknew he predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son” (Rom
8:28-29) 6. “Submit yourselves therefore to God” (James 4:7) B. The blessing: “For we are his workmanship,
created in Christ Jesus for good works” (Eph 2:1-10). |
