Lessons
from Nehemiah: What it Means to Care
George Bernard Shaw once said, “The worst sin toward our fellow
creatures is not to hate them, but to be indifferent to them: that’s the
essence of inhumanity.” Nehemiah was a man who cared. He cared about the
past, present, and future. He cared about his heritage and his ancestral
city. He cared about God, 1. He cared enough to ________. “And I asked them concerning the Jews
who escaped, who had survived the exile, and concerning Jerusalem…”
Nehemiah 1:2 2. He cared enough to
__________. “As soon as I heard
these words I sat down and wept and mourned for days..,” Nehemiah
1:4 3. He cared enough to
_________ “And I said, “O
Lord God of heaven, the great and awesome God who keeps covenant and
steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments.,.”
Nehemiah 1:5 4. He cared enough to
___________. “O Lord, let your
ear be attentive to the prayer of your servant,,. and give success to your
servant today and grant him mercy in the sight of this man.” Nehemiah
1:11 Nehemiah prayed that prayer for 4
months, from the month of Chislev (it would be our December) to the month of
Nisan (it would be our April). Nehemiah cared and remained steadfast –
allowing God to work in his life, God is still looking for people who care,
will we answer the call? |
