A King, a Lame Man,
and a Table of Grace  THE STORY:  A. And David said, “Is there still
anyone left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness forJonathan’s
sake?” (2 Sam 9:1)  B. David had
made two promises:1. To Jonathan — 1 Sam 20:12-17  2. To Saul — 1 Sam 24:20-22  C. Ziba said to the king, “There is
still a son of Jonathan; he is crippled in his feet” (2 Sam 9:3)  D. And Mephibosheth the son of Jonathan …
came to David and fell on his face and paid homage. AndDavid said,
“Mephibosheth!” And he answered, “Behold, I am your
servant.” (2 Sam 9:6)  E. And
David said to him, “Do not fear, for I will show you kindness for the
sake of your father. ..” (9: 7)
1. “I will restore to you all the land of Saul your father …
  2. “And you shall eat at
my table always.”  F. And [Mephibosheth]
paid homage and said, “What is your servant, that you should show regard
for adead dog such as IT (2 Sam 9:8)
THE LESSONS:  A. Mephibosheth
had enjoyed a close relationship with the king as a member of the king’s
_  B. When disaster struck,
Mephibosheth had suffered a and it left him crippled.  C. David, the king—out of sheer love for
Jonathan—demonstrated to Mephibosheth.
D. Mephibosheth had , deserved , and could repay _  E. David brought Mephibosheth from a place
of barrenness to a place of _  F. David
adopted Mephibosheth into his family and he became like one of the king’s
_  G. Mephibosheth’s was a constant
reminder of grace.  H. When
